The Hope House and Serenity Salon
The Hope house is the Denver area’s only “Sufficiency Program” for teen moms. As all of us here at Serenity reflect back on an amazing and successful 2015, we also are taking the time to give to others less fortunate than we are. Our relationship with The Hope House is a perfect example of how our Serenity family contributes to local organizations which enrich and enhance people’s lives.
Being a mom is tough enough. As any of you moms out there already know, to be a successful mom requires full commitment, unconditional love and tremendous effort. Being a teen mom is that much more difficult. Not only do you need to completely care of your child or children, you also are still in the process of finding your own identity. The Hope House offers many programs which specifically target teen moms. Programs which provide much needed support include residential placement assistance, GED and college guidance, career skill enrichment and mentoring/counseling – all catered specifically to young moms.
Each year The Hope House hosts a well-attended Gala. This year it took place on Nov. 7th. The annual gala is a critical fundraising event to raise money for the comprehensive programs offered at The Hope House. In addition, it’s a great time to recognize some of the past year’s amazing girls already in the program. This year’s gala was extremely successful, raising $294,000. This money will help many girls in 2016 on their own journey’s to self sufficiency.
Four of our salon girls, (Cat, Courtney, Megan A, and DeAudra) went to The Hope House gala and provided free hair and makeup to the participants. Having the girls look their best is the least we can do. We are always so humbled to be an integral part of this event.
Throughout the months of November and December we also have run a donation drive. For every product, used( in good shape) or new that clients have brought in, they were entered into a raffle for free Redken products. The product donations we received ranged from hand lotions, shampoos and conditioners to perfumes. We collected over 100 products that we will be donating to the hope house later this week. The raffle winner was Alex H.
As 2015 winds down, all of us here at Serenity hope you’ll take the time to reflect on others less fortunate than you. In the coming days and months, if you can find a way to enhance or enrich other lives in our community, we’ll all be that much better off for it. With peace and love.
