Rinse Colored Hair with Cold Water

Here’s a little secret – at Serenity, we often tell clients to rinse colored hair with cold water. It may seem like a silly suggestion, but actually there’s some science behind it. Think about this, to remove a stain from a t-shirt do you use hot or cold water? Hot of course. Why is this? As your mom always told you, the heat within the water will help to dissolve the stain. She was right about heat removing stains, but she may not have considered what hot water rinsing will do to your hair! Water interacts with you hair in much the same way as that stained shirt. Hot water.

Ever wonder why your hair feels dull and weighed down? Most likely it’s due to product build up on the individual strands of your hair. Shampoo and Conditioner are the culprits! It’s a common problem that happens to all of us. The amount of shampoo you use should be no more than a size of a quarter for finer hair and about the size of a dollar-coin for thick, denser hair.  When shampooing your hair, make sure that your hair is fully drenched in water before adding the shampoo. This way, you work up a good lather which translates to a deep cleanse for your scalp. The result is removal.
